HOP ON OVER

For some Easter fun, that is.  I actually used the vinyl that I cut with my Silhouette as a stencil to create these cutsie blocks.
Adding the glitter was the crowning touch, it just made them sparkle, (duh, glitter does actually sparkle, I just couldn't come up with a good adjective to describe how cute the glitter made them).

Here you can see the beige vinyl I used as the stencil.  I then painted the areas the colors I wanted and let it dry.

 Then I just peeled up the vinyl.

 It actually peeled up pretty well.

 I love how crisp the lines are. 

After I got all of the vinyl peeled I just painted Elmers Glue-All glue onto the designs and sprinkled with crystal fine glitter by Martha Stewart.

Thanksgiving Charger

Have you seen these beautiful charger plates at Walmart?  They are plastic but look so elegant and festive.  By adding some vinyl lettering they are turned into a beautiful way to express thanks.

They are currently on sale for $2 each at my local Walmart.  At that price why not get some for your Thanksgiving table too.

Computer Problems

Wouldn't you know it, as soon as I got my new Silhouette both of my computers (the laptop and the desktop) get some ugly virus. As I type my WONDERFUL son-in-law is working on getting the desktop up and going. I hope to get it by Friday so I can get back to crafting and experimenting with the new cutting machine.

For now I have to keep myself busy doing at least something so I have been making a new kind of flower (well, new to me, it is a new technique that I have seen all over blogland). I bought some fabric that is synthetic. I cut out several sizes of circles and clipped the edges then used a striker to singe the edges. I was inspired by the sunflowers I found over at CRAFTY SISTERS blog.

It is really hard to tell but there are six layers of flowers stacked together to make this flower.
Here is one that has seven layers of the same fabric. It is also quite sparkly but it's hard to tell by the photo.


I am anticipating the birth of a granddaughter in the next few days, I can't wait to make these into head bands for her to wear.

My Random Wednesday

With no inspiration in sight as to what to blog about I thought I would just do something random.

I made some more washer necklaces...

My newly put together fountain, (the birds are enjoying taking baths and sips of water from it. Oh ya, my 4 year old grandson thought it was a drinking fountain and took some sips too).flowers planted in one of my urn planters that I used for a fall decoration (here) last year.

Pretty Posies

After seeing flowers all over blogland I decided it was time to try my hand at making some.

There are many various mediums and techniques to use making flowers. You can use ribbon, fabric and even paper. I am sure there are more but that is what I have started with.

I went to Youtube and just typed in fabric flower tutorials, there were a gazillion videos to choose from.

For this one I used 1/2" wide wired ribbon (about 30" in length). This one is made from fabric. I just cut out about ten 2" circle of fabric then folded each on in half then in half again to form petals, using hot glue to secure the folds. I then glued the petals to a piece of felt about 1 1/2"around.

This was also from 2" wired ribbon.
This ribbon didn't have the wire in it so I just did a running stitch along one side and pulled it up. Then I just started rotating it until a rose began to form.
This small flower is actually made from card stock. I cut out eight flowers with a punch then misted each one with water to soften it. I then wadded each one up to crinkle it then flattened them out and layered them on top of each other. I then punched through the center with an awl, inserted a small brad, then pulled each layer away from each other and fluffed until I had it the way I wanted it. I then spritzed it with some antiquing solution. This one is also wired ribbon but only about 1 1/2" wide. I pulled up nice and tight.
So here are my finished flowers. I can't wait to learn more techniques to make some more flowers.

I have seen all kinds of washer necklaces throughout blog land recently and was inspired to make some of my own. The necklace on the left (below) isn't made with a washer but with a jewelry piece that came in a package with a bunch of other beads. I just laced it onto a ribbon and tied the ends.

The one on the right is made with a washer, a scrapbook embellishment, scrapbook paper, Mod Podge and beads.

Wow, I get sidetracked easily. I started out the day working on vinyl lettering projects and ended up making jewelry.

Inspired by Wordle

I recently came across Wordle, a website that arranges words that relate to a subject in random order that they call 'word clouds'. I thought it would be fun to put some words together that might be related to what a little girl could identify with. I am thinking about adding a few more words to this group. Any suggestions on words to use? I would love to have some input from all of you wonderfully talented bloggers out there. If I use your suggested words I will definitely do a link back to your blog.

"NEST" INSPIRATION

Nest Sentiment Lumbar Pillow from Pottery Barn.


My daughter found this pillow in the Pottery Barn catalog and suggested I make a wall hanging using this idea. I don't like to copy exactly so I chose different fonts and a different (but similar) definition for the word nest. I really like the brown bow attached to it too.
This is on an 8x10 canvas that I painted a soft beige and then I added the brown vinyl lettering and the ribbon/bow.

Teachers Gifts

My daughter, Maria, is visiting for the weekend and we decided to make some teachers gifts for her kids' teachers.

This one was inspired by another blogger (unfortunately I can't remember who it was, if someone knows who it is let me know so I can give credit).

We just used 8x10 canvases and glued scrapbook paper down then added vinyl lettering and some embellishments.This one is for a teacher that LOVES the Twilight series so we did a Bella and Edward twist to it.

It is so fun to have somebody come over and play in my new craft room with me. So much fun.
